Volunteer Opportunities
General
ON CALL VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are needed who can be on call to help out with special projects such as large mailings, event preparation and event day assistance (i.e. Education Conference, Memory Walk). Tasks will include organizing and preparing materials, event set up/clean up, registration check-in and more. These opportunities will take place either in the office building, or where the event will take place. On call volunteers will receive emails from the Association about upcoming opportunities.
WEEKLY VOLUNTEER
For people interested in volunteering on a regular basis, positions are available for weekly volunteers. Volunteers can come in once or twice a week to assist with various administrative tasks and/or special ongoing projects. Administrative tasks include answering phones, creating packets, data entry, copying, filing, mailing preparations and more. Some ongoing projects include event planning, volunteer recruitment/management and developing/maintaining many of our ongoing programs.
Development/ Special Events
MEMORY WALK
Memory Walk is the Alzheimer’s Association’s largest national fundraiser. Walks are held each year in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Memory Walk volunteers are needed to help out on walk day with setting up, registering walkers, handing out waters, serving food, cleaning up and more. Prior to the walk volunteers are needed to assist with publicity, logistics, mailings, data entry and more!
SPECIAL EVENTS
Volunteers are needed to help out at many of our special events. These opportunities vary depending on the event and will include publicity, logistics, mailing preparations, phone support and day of assistance. Some of our past events have include “The Notebook” Movie Screening with Gena Rowlands, Golf Tournaments, and our Champions Awards Dinner.
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Play a key role in actively planning one of our upcoming fundraisers! Committee members are assigned jobs that interest them and that they feel most comfortable doing. Committees meet only once a month and most assignments are carried out between meetings at your convenience. Committee members will help out with many of our special events including Memory Walk, our Golf Tournament, afternoon and evening Galas, and movie screenings. Tasks will include, but are not limited to publicity, logistics, sponsorships and more.
Program/ Education/ Family Services
SPEAKERS BUREAU
Volunteers are needed to serve in various capacities. Speakers may be asked to speak to individuals to facilitate resource groups for family, friends and professional caregivers of persons with dementia. The meetings provide a non-judgmental environment where people can share ideas, experiences, information and coping skills. Interested volunteers will meet with Patient & Family Services to discuss possibilities.
VOLUNTEER OUTREACH/MANAGEMENT
Our volunteers are passionate, inspired and want to make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. We are looking for someone interested in developing our volunteer program so that we are able to utilize our volunteers’ skills in the most efficient and rewarding way possible. Tasks will include recruiting new volunteers, maintaining volunteer database, recommending program revisions, and coordinating volunteer appreciation materials/events.
PUBLIC OUTREACH/HEALTH FAIRS/EDUCATION
Volunteers have the opportunity to promote the Alzheimer’s Association at various public outreach events and health fairs. Chapter representatives distribute information and brochures about Alzheimer’s disease and chapter programs and events.
Volunteers can also accompany our Programs Director in many education and trainings workshops. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about Alzheimer’s disease as well as many of the issues that accompany the disease, in addition to assisting the Program Director in setting up and cleaning up
Advocacy
ADVOCATE
Advocacy is a major component of the Alzheimer’s Association mission. Alzheimer’s Advocates are calling for advancements in research and enhanced car and support. Become and advocate and assist with influencing legislators at the Federal and State level by sending emails, writing letters, visiting legislators in home district offices, attending our Public Policy Forums and Capital Day events and identifying new advocates.
