Learn to incorporate animal assisted activities into the residential environment to enhance socialization and reduce anxiety and aggression.

Examine the causes and progression of Alzheimer’s and how these changes affect caring for individuals with this disease.

Participants will practice methods of interacting with families by examining case scenarios, discussion and an understanding of family responses.

Learn how to assess and respond to sexual activity in dementia care settings in a way that maintains the rights, dignity and respect of individuals with dementia.
Compassionate Care: Creating an Abuse Free Dementia Care Environment (3 hours)
Become skilled at identifying abusive treatment of residents and discover how to provide more compassionate care. Learn abuse prevention techniques such as problem-solving resident behavior and managing your own stress.
Music: A Key to Memories and Minds (3 hours)
Music is the hidden key to the mind. Learn to unlock this resource. No musical talent required!
Late Stage Dementia Care (3 hours)
Identify special needs, examine the barriers and explores solutions for caring for individuals in the later stages of Alzheimer’s disease
Training Dementia Care Staff (3 hours)
Spruce up your in-services! Learn tips and techniques for creating meaningful dementia training programs.
Assessment and Documentation (3 hours)
Participants will hone their documentation skills by reviewing techniques to assess whether a program is appropriate for a specific individual.
Oral Health and Dementia (3 hours)
Those attending this class will become informed on the standard of oral health care for patients with dementia. Attendees will also receive information on how a continuum of care can be achieved, and is necessary, at every stage of memory loss. There will be discussion on care options and a needs analysis.
Bathing and Dementia Care (3 hours)
One of the most difficult experiences for caregivers and people with dementia is bathing. Come learn some proven techniques to help making bathing more pleasant for both. Based on the “Bathing Without a Battle” model.

Validation Therapy (3 hours)
Validation is a way of caring for and connecting with people with Alzheimer's disease. Participants will learn how to increase dignity and quality of life for the person with dementia and how to reduce frustration for caregivers.
Death, Dying and Dementia (3 hours)
Explore issues surrounding death and dying for the person with dementia and the value of teamwork between professional caregivers, patients and family members.
