For those with Alzheimer's, the world has grown confusing, overwhelming, and maybe even a little frightening. Alzheimer’s Association Memories in the Making® (MIM) is an art program for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias that brings comfort and joy through the process of creating watercolors. Even after people with dementia have lost the ability to use words, they are often able to express thoughts and emotions and to share memories through painting with watercolors. The experience offers an opportunity for the essence of who they are and what they care about to shine through.
Beautiful artwork is created by those with memory impairment in 90 Memories in the Making art classes held weekly throughout the state. A jury of professional artists selects the artwork for an art auction in four front range communities. It is then professionally framed for display at annual Memories in the Making Art Shows and Auctions.
