 The Alzheimer’s Association East Central Iowa Chapter

WHAT:  The 14th Annual Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Education Conference and Alzheimer’s Association’s Excellence in Caregiving Awards Presentation

The conference has a day session for professionals and an evening session for care partners, family, friends and direct care staff. The first keynote speaker, Paul Mulhausen, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Iowa’s Department of Internal Medicine. He will be delivering his keynote address, Plagues, PETs & Pittsburgh Compound B: Update on the Clinical Science of Alzheimer’s Disease. The second keynote speaker, Karen Stobbe, is the author of “Sometimes Ya Gotta Laugh” and a nationally recognized speaker and innovative trainer in dementia care. She will deliver her keynote address, Communication Tips & Tools for Behavior.
 
Over 200 individuals are taking part in the day session. During the conference luncheon the “Excellence in Caregiving Awards”, that honor outstanding achievement in caregiving, will be presented to 4 recipients. The recipients of the awards were nominated by their peers.

WHEN:  Thursday, August 14th
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the conference beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m. Keynote speaker Paul Mulhausen, MD, will present at 8:45 a.m. and keynote speaker Karen Stobbe will present at 10:15 a.m. The Excellence in Caregiving Awards will be presented during the luncheon at 11:45 a.m.

WHY:  The conference provides care professionals with the opportunity to connect with peers from around Eastern Iowa; learn from renowned aging experts; and participate in educational programs tailored to address the unique needs and demands of the profession.

DETAILS:
8:30 a.m.: Opening remarks, presentation of event committee and keynote sponsors

8:45 a.m.: Paul Mulhausen, MD, presents keynote address, “Plagues, PETs & Pittsburgh Compound B: Update on the Clinical Science of Alzheimer’s Disease”.

10:15 a.m.: Karen Stobbe presents keynote address, “Communication Tips and Tools for Behaviors”.

11:45 –1:00 p.m.: Luncheon and presentation of Excellence in Caregiving award winners

5:30 p.m.  Session for Care Partners, Family, Friends & Direct Care Staff begins.
