2025 Rita Hayworth Gala Philanthropy Award Honorees
It is our great privilege to honor Linda Mendelson, Sharon Mendelson Markman and Alexa Markman with the 2025 Rita Hayworth Gala Philanthropy Award.
They know firsthand the heartbreak that Alzheimer’s can have on generations of a family. Sharon remembers vividly the very long goodbye the family experienced with her grandmother, Linda’s mother, Libby Weinstein. The journey began when a flurry of Alzheimer's articles were found hidden in Libby’s apartment after her husband passed away. The family realized quite quickly that they were blind to the challenges he had been experiencing. Because of their connection, they are determined to make a difference for the generations to come and the millions of families who have stories similar to theirs.
We recognize Linda Mendelson and Sharon Mendelson Markman for their and their family’s decades of committed support to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Rita Hayworth Gala, as donors, former gala chairs, and long-standing steering committee members. And Alexa Markman for her involvement as a member of the Illinois Chapter’s Junior Board. Having three generations of support is exemplary of the dedication needed to reach our vision of a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia. Their commitment to our cause has helped to build awareness with new audiences and raise incredible funds for the full mission work of the Alzheimer’s Association.
