We offer several educational programs for families and individuals facing Alzheimer’s, as well as community members. Most of these programs, described below, are free of charge. The Great Plains Chapter offers many programs to fit nearly all of the needs of care givers. A few of these programs are listed below. Family caregiver series
Maintain Your Brain--People often think of staying fit as only involving the body from the neck down. The health of your brain plays a crucial role in everything we do. Remembering, learning, playing, feeling, sleeping, even our heart rate are all important brain activities. The good news is that we know there are a lot of things we can do to help keep our brains healthy as we age. These steps might also reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease or other dementia. This one hour workshop teaches simple lifestyle changes to help us lead a brain healthy life.
Communication and Understanding Behaviors--a one hour presentation which works well for both facility staff and home care giver in services. The program teaches the basics of Alzheimer's disease and it's progression, good communication and the role it plays in preventing difficult behaviors and dealing with them if they occur.
The Basics of Alzheimer's Disease--a one hour presentation which teaches how the brain works and how Alzheimer's disease affects it. It goes into detail how the disease progresses, the importance of an early diagnosis and what is currently available for the affected person.
