Early Stage Support Group Facilitator Training 

Length: Full-day

Cost: Professional - $90.00 | Non-Professional - $45.00

CEUs: 6.5 CEUS are available for activity directors, counselors, nursing home administrators, social workers, PTs, OTs, and RNs through the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Department of Family Medicine for an additional $10.

Videoconference from Remote Site: $45.00 (Bloomington and Springfield.)

All participants will receive an early stage support group facilitator manual and a certificate of attendance.

Please note:  Because of the highly interactive nature of this training, no more than 15 people will be allowed to register for each session.  Pre-application is required.

EARLY STAGE SUPPORT GROUPS are regularly scheduled in-person or virtual gatherings of people with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders, their family, friends, or caregivers.

This full-day training will prepare you to facilitate an Early support group. 

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Define symptoms of a person in the early stages of memory loss.
  • Understand the differences between an individual diagnosed under the age of 65 and over the age of 65.
  • Describe group dissemination formats and logistics specific to running early stage groups.
  • Facilitate discussion on a variety of topics of interest to people in the early stages.
  • Utilize techniques for engaging participants.
  • Understand the role of screening prior to entry into the program and transitioning when participation is no longer benefiting the participant or other group members.
