2013 Great Duck Race on the Rock River

Duck Race Winners are Generous Donors to Alzheimer's Association

The first and second place winners of the Fifth Annual Rock River Duck Race are being lauded for their generosity after donating their winnings back to the Association and to another charity following the August 10th event in Dixon.

A total of 1,292 ducks was launched form the Galena Street Bridge on the Rock River to help raise awareness and funding for the Alzheimer's Association. An event of Reagan Trail Days, 235 individuals and local businesses purchased tickets from the Rock River Branch. Blue, pink and yellow numbered toy ducks raced to the Peoria Street Bridge where the Dixon City and Rural Fire Departments were on hand to capture and declare the winners. A total of $1,400 in prize money was awarded to first, second and third place winners. The laziest duck (last one to arrive) was also awarded a $50 cash prize.

First Place: KSB Hospital $1,000
Second Place: Valerie Ford $250
Third Place: Boss Roofing - Siding Experts $100
Laziest Duck: Tom Kitson $50

KSB was very generous with their winnings, donating $500 back to the Alzheimer's Association and $500 to the KSB Caring Friends Fund, an employee to employee interim support fund.

Second Place Winner Valerie Ford was also generous in donating her winnings back to the Association.

Ticket holders were primarily from Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties, but the event drew interest from Carroll County and as far away as Minnesota.

We are grateful to the Main Street Association for including us in Reagan Trail Days, the local fire departments for their assistance and to everyone who purchased tickets/ducks in support of our cause.

David Schreiner, FACHE President and CEO of KSB Hospital, presents checks to Rock River Chapter Assistant Tina Barnhart, and Bert Kelser, Caring Friends Committee member.

Valerie Ford, of Ford Lincoln Mazda, Dixon, was the second place winner and donated her prize money back to the Rock River Branch.

Thank you KSB Hospital and Valerie Ford and everyone who supported this annual fundraiser!
