Jim Martin, a long-time volunteer and board member was named the 2019 Volunteer Extraordinaire. For many years, Jim enjoyed a successful career as an active trial lawyer. In 2010, he experienced an unexpected traumatic brain injury, which resulted in significant memory impairment. As part of the healing process, Jim began volunteering at a local hospital, with the Oregon State Bar, with the Alzheimer's Association, and with Brain Injury Connections Northwest.

Jim's story moved all who met him. Medical students from Oregon Health & Science University always appreciated his openness and willingness to answer their questions during their intersession panel discussions at the Alzheimer's Association. Jim's passion for advocacy was evident in his many interactions with Congressman Blumenauer and other elected officials in the state of Oregon. Jim always showed his generous support at Alzheimer's many fundraising events -- attending early morning breakfast fundraisers, luncheons and the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.

Jim passed away on Saturday August 1, 2020 of natural causes. He is immediately survived by his two children, Elizabeth and Daniel Martin and his three siblings, Hugh Martin, Mary Henderson, and John Martin.
