Therapy dog wins at Westminster

Before Diamond Jim won best of show at the Westminster Dog Show, this English springer spaniel worked as a certified therapy dog comforting individuals with Alzheimer’s. After his big win, this caring canine is returning to life as a therapy dog.

The use of pet therapy in hospitals, assisted living and nursing homes is growing. And, there are many studies on the positive effects of therapy dog visits published each year. According to a 2004 study presented at the International Conference on Human-Animal Interactions, animal-assisted therapy for people with Alzheimer’s has been shown to improve language, attention span and interactions.
