Juli Inkster Honors LPGA Legend Patty Berg and Raises Funds for Alzheimer's Disease

The Alzheimer’s Association today announced the launch of the Round to Remember™ initiative at the U.S. Women’s Open Championship to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease research and support services. LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster will lead an initiative to raise funds for Alzheimer's disease in honor of LPGA founder and legend Patty Berg.

Berg was one of 13 founders of the LPGA in 1950, and was the organization’s first president. During her golfing career Berg had 60 career victories, including 15 major championships and was one of the six inaugural inductees into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame in 1967.

In December 2004, Berg publicly disclosed she is living with Alzheimer’s disease. In honor of her tremendous accomplishments, Genworth Financial will donate $500 to the Alzheimer's Association for each of Inkster’s rounds under par this season. Genworth Financial will also match up to $5,000 in donations from the general public made through www.roundtoremember.org. Genworth Financial is a proud sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association and Inkster.

“Supporting the Alzheimer’s Association through the Round to Remember is a way for me to express my gratitude to Patty for being a pioneer in women’s golf,” said Juli Inkster, LPGA Hall of Famer. “I hope others will join this initiative to support the Alzheimer's Association’s mission to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease and enhance care and support for all affected.” Alzheimer’s disease affects 4.5 million people in the United States and as the 77 million baby boomers age that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.

“I am one of millions of Americans affected by Alzheimer’s disease,” said Patty Berg, LPGA founder and legend. “I am honored that Juli Inkster and Genworth are recognizing me, but I am even more pleased they have recognized the critical need to raise funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, and are doing so through a Round to Remember.”
