Associate Director, Major Gifts - Northern CA/NV
Special Events Manager – Reno, Nevada
DEPARTMENT: Development
STATUS: Part-time, 20 Hours per week.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of Special Events and the Regional Director, the Special Events Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing Memory Walk, the annual signature fundraising event in Reno. The Special Events Manager works with Association staff, volunteer leadership and the Memory Walk Committee to champion the Association’s mission and enhance the culture of diversity, advocacy and fund development.
Additionally, the Special Events Manager is responsible for cultivating relationships with corporations to secure corporate funding and building a donor and volunteer base that achieves revenue goals and enhances public awareness.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Design, implement, monitor, execute and evaluate all event activities including fundraising and logistic plan
• Develop and execute fundraising and marketing plan that secures Memory Walk Corporate Sponsorship and Team and Walker revenue while managing expense budget
• Ensures smooth integration of National Association and Chapter standards and guidelines
• Coordinate Reno Memory Walk volunteer participation, provide staff support to key volunteers and volunteer committee
• Coordinate and oversee marketing efforts for Memory Walk (content for newsletter and participant mailings, fielding calls and inquiries from Media)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS/DEGREE REQUIRED/DESIRED, AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelors degree preferred
• Familiarity with event fundraising strategies
• Experience with event production and management, volunteer development and management, public relations, donor cultivation and relations, corporate sponsor cultivation and relations
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet
• Knowledge of various mailing procedures and distribution of large amounts of materials
• Ability to work with vendors such as graphic artists, printers, merchandise businesses, caterers, etc.
• Familiarity with legal issues such as insurance, permits, waivers, tax laws, etc.
• Ability to manage large numbers of volunteers at different levels of expertise
• Ability to understand and work with budgets
• Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
• Ability to travel occasionally throughout the Chapter Area
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Legislative Specialist
DEPARTMENT: California Council
REPORTS TO: Director of Public Policy
STATUS: Full-time, 40 Hours Per Week, Exempt
(Position is partially grant funded through June 2011)
POSITION SUMMARY
The California Legislative Specialist is responsible for assisting the California Public Policy Director in all aspects of the Alzheimer’s Association’s California state policy activities, including planning and implementing advocacy events in support of the Association’s public policy goals. He/she is also responsible for assisting in the planning of quarterly meetings of the California Council of the Alzheimer’s Association, all general office work, and maintaining the Council’s website. Position requires occasional travel, including quarterly Saturday meetings in California and the annual Forum in Washington, DC. Although the position is managed and supervised through the Alzheimer’s Association National Office, the employer of record is the Northern California/Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, which serves as fiscal agent of the Council. This position is located in Sacramento, California.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
State Policy Activities (35%)
• Use the legislative information system and other internet resources to monitor legislation and track committee and floor activities.
• Review state legislation and assess the impact on families living with Alzheimer’s disease.
• Maintain and update a schedule of bill and budget hearings on the Council’s priority legislation and budget issues.
• Draft the legislative report and regularly update the bill summaries and status.
• Draft correspondence, fact sheets, and other materials.
• Meet with Legislative staff to discuss the Council’s views and concerns, and represent the Council at legislative hearings and in meetings with other organizations.
Administrative office and accounting support (35%)
• Perform general office support, including: responding to telephone calls, e-mail messages, faxes, etc.; taking messages and relaying information; maintaining office supplies and office equipment (e.g. personal computers, fax machine, copier, printers, postage meter, etc.); making travel plans; processing mail; processing expense reimbursements; and typing correspondence, reports, and other documents.
• Code invoices and submit to fiscal agent for payment and maintain all financial records.
• Maintain files and office in a neat and orderly manner.
Meeting and event planning (20%)
• Coordinate and handle all logistics and preparation for the State Alzheimer’s Plan Task Force and subcommittee meetings.
• Coordinate all Sacramento advocacy events (Sacramento Advocacy Day and other Alzheimer’s Action Days), including registration, logistics, and materials preparation.
• Coordinate quarterly Council meetings, including handling all meeting logistics and catering, supporting Chapter delegates and staff with travel, preparing meeting materials, and taking and drafting minutes.
Website Development (10%)
• Maintain and regularly update Council website.
• Prepare materials and ensure information is complete and current.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS/DEGREE REQUIRED/DESIRED, AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public health, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum two years experience in administrative and/or office management as well as legislative work, health policy preferred.
• Experience working in a non-profit organization preferred.
• Knowledge of California’s health care delivery system and aging issues as well as California’s legislative process.
• Computer and technology skills, including use of Microsoft office products (Excel and PowerPoint), the Internet, and electronic communication methods.
• Excellent organizational skills that ensure multiple tasks are completed on time.
