Campaign for Quality Residential Care

People with dementia make up 50% of residents in long-term care.  The Alzheimer's Association is committed to champion dementia care that is safe and respectful for each individual, and to train health care providers to provide the best possible dementia care.

Our National Dementia Care Practice Recommendations are supported by numerous national healthcare associations serving the elderly and at-risk populations.  Goals for key care areas are:
Ensure nutritional well-being through adequate food and fluid consumption.
Manage pain to ease distress and avoid unnecessary use of medications.
Engage residents in activities that have personal meaning.
Prevent unsafe wandering and promote safe, independent mobility.
Reduce the risk of falls and fall-related injuries.
Encourage physical restraint-free care.

Train for Results

Our field-tested programs help you achieve longer-lasting, more consistent results.  We offer classroom and online training formats offering CEU opportunities at competitive pricing that provide:
A team approach:  We train both your supervisors and direct care staff with the same care practices.  your supervisors learn to model best practices and motivate staff to be independent problem solvers.
Strategies for residents in all stages of dementia:  Staff learn skills, from simple techniques like use of body language, tone of voice and physical stance; to more advanced skills such as recognizing and reporting pain.
Connecting with residents:  the more care providers know about a resident, the more effectively they can respond to individual care needs.  We emphasize attention to individual resident preferences, behaviors and ways of communicating.
