Jensen, Humana chip in for Siouxland Senior Open
Jensen Dealerships and Humana MarketPoint have joined the ranks of sponsors for the 16th annual Siouxland Senior Open, teeing off May 21 at Two Rivers Golf Club in Dakota Dunes. The tri-state area's premier senior golf event, the Siouxland Senior Open awards the Gunderson's Cup and Dale Mogren Memorial Plaque to the area's top senior golfer. All proceeds raised by the event benefit Senior Day Services, the Association's adult day program located in downtown Sioux City.
Other major sponsors of the 2008 Open include RBC Wealth Management and KCAU-TV, exclusive media sponsor. The tournament is open to golfers age 50 and over; the day will conclude with a 6:30 pm banquet at the Dakota Dunes Country Club, featuring honorary chair Coach Ray Obermiller and guest of honor Coach Johnny Orr.
“We’re always grateful when local businesses get behind an event like the Senior Open,” said Eric Newhouse, Association interim executive director, “but we’re especially glad to have so many new sponsors get on board this year.
“Senior Day Services is an important program which helps more than just its clients. And the support of sponsors like Jensen and Humana makes it possible for us to keep providing the service every day.”
Jensen Dealerships includes Jensen Imports on Sioux City's Auto Row, Le Mars Ford/Mercury and Heartland Motors in Hawarden. As a Hole-In-One sponsor, Jensen Imports will be featured on Hole 3 at Two Rivers, with a Mazda awaiting a golfer with skill and luck enough to make the 170-yard hole in one.
Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, Humana is one of the nation's largest publicly traded health benefits companies. Humana is also the official Health Benefits Provider of the PGA Tour. Bob's Watering Hole revs up for the Alzheimer's Association

Representatives of Bob’s Watering Hole today presented the Alzheimer’s Association, Big Sioux Chapter with a donation of $13,500 toward local services and support.
Bob’s Watering Hole, located at West 7th and Omaha streets, holds a poker run and benefit auction every fall in support of charities. Owners Bob and Denise Holsinger selected the Alzheimer’s Association as the benefactor of the 2007 event.
“We’re grateful to everyone at Bob’s who helped make this event a success—not only Bob and Denise, but all the people who donate and help them every year,” said Eric Newhouse, Alzheimer’s Association interim president/CEO. “In addition to our adult day service in downtown Sioux City, proceeds from this event will help us provide education and support to families caring for their loved ones at home.”
An estimated 65,000 Iowans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory loss disorder; of those, seven in ten are cared for at home by family and friends, often with little outside help.
Next year’s poker run is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 13; for more details, contact Bob’s Watering Hole at (712) 252 3096.
Donlins honorary chairs for A Time to Remember
Mike and Patti Donlin will serve as honorary chairpersons for A Time to Remember, the upcoming Wine & Roses Festival kickoff event in Le Mars. Mike is the administrator at Floyd Valley Hospital, and Patti is a well-known community volunteer.
“Patti and I have enjoyed our local Alzheimer’s Association chapter and the Wine and Roses event for several years,” said Mike. “What an even greater privilege to lend our support as honorary chairs! We know that the Le Mars kick-off for the exciting weekend festivities in Sioux City has become an important tradition every Spring. It’s great to have a local event that’s not only a lot of fun, but supports an important cause at the same time. We urge all our friends and neighbors to join us … this year, and the next and the next!”
Planning is underway for the Thursday, April 3 fundraiser, which will be held at the Le Mars Country Club, a new venue for this event. The evening begins at 6:00 pm. Committee co-chairs Danna Schuster and Mary Helen McManus are putting together an evening that will feature both a live and silent auction, comedy troupe, dinner, and wine tasting with prestigious guest winemakers from across the United States.
A Time to Remember supports Alzheimer’s Association programming in Plymouth County and is the kickoff event to a three day Wine and Roses Festival with other events to be held in Sioux City.
