For more than 27 years, the Alzheimer's Association Chapters that merged to form the STAR Chapter have lead the fight against Alzheimer's disease and related disorders by increasing the understanding of dementia and its impact on family and community, providing information and support for those affected, and promoting the advancement of research. The STAR Chapter was created in 2002 when six independent Alzheimer’s chapters in Texas merged their resources to enhance the scope and quality of supportive programs and services provided to the residents of the one of the geographically largest services regions in the United States.

The Chapter coordinates services from our offices in Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock, Midland, and San Antonio to an area of more than 156,388 square miles and 127 Texas counties. We provide a comprehensive roster of Alzheimer’s disease related supportive programs and services that include, but is not limited to: 24-Hour Information and Referrals; Family Caregiver Education and Training; Support Group Sessions; Medic-Alert / Safe Return Registration; and Community Education and Awareness Raising Presentations. The Alzheimer’s Association STAR Chapter is the only agency across our broad and diverse service delivery area dedicated specifically to the provision of Alzheimer’s disease related programs and supportive services in a not-for-profit setting.
