NIA-AA Symposium:
Enabling Precision Medicine

Thursday, July 23
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Features an array of translational research programs that integrate computational and experimental approaches to:

  1. Discover novel, disease-relevant targets and biomarkers.
  2. Develop next-generation animal models and target enabling tools.
  3. Support the development of new candidate therapeutics for a diverse portfolio of targets.
  4. Advance data-driven drug repositioning and combination therapy development.

NIA-AA Symposium: Applied Science of Recruitment

Friday, July 24
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This symposium is designed to share best practices, identify gaps and support the development of an applied science of recruitment and retention to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia (AD/ADRD) Clinical Research.

Provides practical information and an enhanced understanding of the fast-growing fields of amyloid and tau imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluorodeoxyglucose positron imaging tomography (PET). Covers common interpretive clinical and research applications for each methodology.

Provides an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles, inherent limitations and clinical and research applications of the most common biomarkers used in Alzheimer’s disease and found in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood.

Provides researchers and health professionals with a practical review of advanced analytical methods commonly in scientific articles to model change of continuous outcomes (i.e. cognitive scores, some measure of physical function) over time. This applied workshop will use real data examples to review advanced modern methods used to evaluate the change in cognition over time.

Examines disparities in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) with special emphasis on study design and methodological considerations when linking multi-level factors to AD disparities. Focuses on Alzheimer biomarkers evaluation and the use of various lifecourse perspectives.

Alzheimer's Imaging Consortium (AIC) Preconference

Saturday, July 25
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Focuses on the clinical applications and methodological development of neuroimaging (MRI, PET, SPECT, CT and others) to Alzheimer’s, other dementias and normal brain aging.

Technology and Dementia

Saturday, July 25
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Brings together researchers in the technological field — including mobile technology, home-based technology and social networking — to apply innovative study design and potential solutions to Alzheimer’s and other dementia research.

Addresses key challenges academic scientists face when attempting to commercialize their science — from identifying when science is ready for translation, to overcoming issues involved with starting a new company.
