Development Specialist

General Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Development Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of a number of the Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's events, including the recruitment, cultivation and management of volunteers, and fostering relationships with local community partners.

Essential Job Functions

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage high level volunteers to develop an effective and  "cause-dedicated" pool of committed and trained individuals, including strong chairs to lead respective Walk to End Alzheimer's event planning and implementation.

  • Support, train and manage committee volunteers, providing committee coaching and encouragement as well as monitoring goals.

  • Solicit and cultivate past and new teams as well as sponsors.

  • Maintain relationships with key corporate sponsors year-round and insure involvement in all relevant Chapter activities and recognition opportunities.

  • Provide on-site management and logistical support for respective walk events. 

  • Represent Chapter at public and media events and in all communications with current and potential donors to build understanding for the Alzheimer's Association – its research role, programs and services.

  • Support a cohesive, collaborative and synergistic development team culture, within the local Chapter and across the region.

  • Update and revise walk websites and manage related Facebook groups.

  • Provide support to overall fundraising operations of the Chapter including customer service to constituents; database mining and management; donor/sponsor/advocate relations and communications; management of vendor relations, etc.

  • Assure compliance with all National Association policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; promote Association-wide programs and initiatives. Ensure proper preparation and timely submission of reports as requested and required.

  • Perform those additional duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director to maintain efficient operations in the defined geographical region.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in non-profit field or sales/marketing.

  • 3+ years of proven leadership experience in Mass Market/Special Events.

  • Strong track record in mobilizing community volunteers to engage in fundraising efforts, as well as other leadership activities to move organization's mission forward.

  • Experience in budgeting.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

  • Successful experience in working with volunteers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Attention to detail and proven project and time management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Proficiency with Internet and database/fundraising applications, preferably Convio/Luminate

  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, early morning and occasional weekends.

  • Ability to travel extensively in Chapter territory, as well as occasional overnight travel.

  • Valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance and access to personal vehicle to meet travel requirements.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
