The start of a new year is a time to look ahead, and we're inspired by NARFE's determination to raise $13 million for the Alzheimer's Association by the end of 2018. With nearly $12.5 donated already, NARFE is well on the way to its goal. As the world's largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer's disease research and the leading voice for Alzheimer's advocacy, the Association invests NARFE dollars in cutting-edge research projects that hold the most potential to help people today and change the trajectory of this devastating disease — and in efforts to advocate at the federal and state levels for the support our movement needs. Thank you, NARFE members, for commitment to our vision of a world without Alzheimer's.

IDEAS Study reaches recruitment goal
In 2016, the Alzheimer's Association launched the Imaging Dementia—Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) Study, the largest ongoing study in dementia research, to test the impact of a brain amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) scan on medical management of people where the cause of their dementia or cognitive impairment is challenging to diagnose. The study has met its recruitment goal to provide more than 18,000 Medicare participants with amyloid PET scans and has closed enrollment ahead of schedule. Learn more.

Despite Hurricane Harvey, NARFE Chapter 91 reaches its Walk goals
Congratulations to the NARFE Chapter 91 team for Walk to End Alzheimer's® Corpus Christi. Although this year's Walk had to be rescheduled to December following the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, Chapter 91 rallied to make its Walk team its best yet. Now in its third year of fielding a NARFE Walk team, the chapter met all its goals for member/families participation, support and donations. The final fundraising tally reported by Joel Menking, NARFE Chapter 91 Team Captain, was $1,320! Additionally, Chapter 91 was recognized by the South Texas Area Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's as one of only five local teams that raised over $1,000 for the fight against this disease. Registration for Walk 2018 is now open! Join or start a NARFE team by signing up today.
