Together, we are making history in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. At the end of September, the largest-ever funding increase for Alzheimer's and dementia research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was signed into law. The $425 million increase was advocated for by the Alzheimer's Association, the Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM) and its nationwide network of dedicated advocates — including the dedicated members of NARFE. Spearheaded by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.) and Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.), this action shows that Congress remains fully committed to the fight to end Alzheimer's. But our fight is far from over. Thank you, NARFE members, for your help in this great accomplishment, for your contributions to our success in the past and for the achievements we will make together in the future.

Studies in healthy older people aim to prevent Alzheimer's
Science has yet to discover a drug that can stop the progression of Alzheimer's, but there's growing excitement in the field about prevention. New research, funded in part by the Alzheimer's Association, is targeting early brain changes while memory and thinking skills are still intact, with the hope of preventing the devastation of Alzheimer's and other dementias. Tell Congress to pass the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act
Now that Congress has passed a $425 million increase for Alzheimer's and dementia research funding at the National Institutes of Health for fiscal year 2019, this historic increase raises total annual research spending on Alzheimer's to $2.3 billion. Help continue the momentum on Capitol Hill; tell Congress to pass the Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act, which would create an Alzheimer's public health infrastructure to address the disease. Americans living with Alzheimer's may more than double by 2060
The number of people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in the United States is projected to more than double by 2060, according to a new study published in Alzheimer's & Dementia®: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's; the authors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that number will grow to 13.9 million by 2060, which is similar to other projections. The researchers believe Hispanic Americans and African Americans will see the largest increase. Learn more.
