Rose Nelson met Elizabeth in 2007, during her children's middle and high school years, while working on the PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association) together. "As PTSA president, Elizabeth inspired so many parents to get involved with the organization," Rose says.
Elizabeth also inspired Rose when sharing details about The Judy Fund and their crucial efforts in the fight against Alzheimer's. "When I discovered The Judy Fund, I realized how critical funding is in order to bolster cutting-edge research efforts and provide education on decreasing one's Alzheimer's risk," Rose explains.
For Rose, like so many of us, Alzheimer's is personal. "When my mom was diagnosed at 82 years old in 2010, it was the most overwhelming and devastating feeling. I had no idea how this would affect our lives," she says. The disease was life-changing for Rose and her family. "Uncertainty of the future became a daily thought," she shares. Rose contacted the Alzheimer's Association in Cleveland — where her parents lived — and they provided valuable support and resources for her family.
"My father was my mom's caregiver and never left her side until she passed away at 92 years old. He supported the Alzheimer's Association in Cleveland for many years in her honor," says Rose.
Rose has carried on his legacy of giving back by donating to several causes close to her heart, including The Judy Fund, and by participating in her local Walk to End Alzheimer's event in Santa Monica, California. "I love being part of Walk to support the Alzheimer's Association and The Judy Fund. It's an inspiration to see the large group of Elizabeth's family and friends walking for the most important cause in our world today – to end Alzheimer's. Judy Gelfand would be so very proud of her daughter!"
