Awards

The Alzheimer’s Association is proud to celebrate the individuals who have made significant contributions to dementia science through two awards at AAIC Neuroscience Next. These awards recognize the work of mentors in neuroscience, as well as those who are just beginning their career in this vital field.

The award nomination period will be open Feb. 1-28, 2024. Awards will be presented during the AAIC Neuroscience Next conference.

The Alzheimer’s Association Excellence in Neuroscience Mentoring Award

This award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the mentoring of dementia scientists, through either research mentorship (where the mentor shares technical knowledge and skills), career mentorship (where a mentor shares insights on career navigation and provides advancement opportunities), or personal mentorship (where a mentor guides their mentees to build confidence, persist through obstacles and achieve personal goals). The nomination of early career investigators and individuals who have led mentorship initiatives for underrepresented groups in dementia science is particularly encouraged.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The nominee must demonstrate a current or past affiliation to a major academic or research/treatment institution(s). Affiliations to government, industry and non-profit organizations are eligible.
  • The awardee must be able attend AAIC Neuroscience Next to receive the award and participate in a moderated discussion on the importance of mentorship.
  • Self-nominations are eligible.
  • Members of the AAIC Neuroscience Next Scientific Program Committee are not eligible.

The AAIC Neuroscience Next 'One to Watch' Award

This award recognizes the next generation of leaders in neuroscience; the students, postdoctoral researchers and early career investigators who are trailblazers in scientific thinking, collaboration, communication and/or outreach. The nomination of individuals who are facilitating diverse perspectives in dementia science is particularly encouraged.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Student, postdoctoral researcher or early-career investigator within seven years of their terminal degree.
  • The awardee must be able attend AAIC Neuroscience Next to receive the award and participate in a panel discussion.
  • Self-nominations are eligible.
