Washington, D.C., August 3, 2022 — The Alzheimer’s Association and the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) are devastated to hear of the tragic accident taking the lives of longtime Alzheimer’s champion Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) and members of her staff — Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts.
Since 2013, Rep. Walorski has served the people of Indiana’s second congressional district honorably. In her tenure, she was a true partner and advocate for people living with Alzheimer’s and their families.
“Our hearts go out to the families and friends of Rep. Walorski, Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts in this difficult time. We will be forever grateful for her and her team’s commitment to working with us to improve the lives of people living with dementia and their families,” said Robert Egge, Alzheimer’s Association chief public policy officer and AIM executive director.
As a member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, she ensured the timely passage of countless bills that are having a measurable impact on millions of American families facing dementia. She was a lead sponsor in the 116th Congress of the Improving HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act, critical legislation, which since its passage has been expanding health care provider knowledge and resources to better help people living with dementia and their families. Additionally, Rep. Walorski was an early cosponsor of the Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease Act, also in the 116th Congress, and the Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer’s Act in this current congress.
