Help improve the quality of care and quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families by carrying our message to elected officials at the federal, state and local levels. Communicate with elected officials via petitions, phone calls and other calls-to-action, participate in area events, and share your story. Political experience is not required, and we will assign you to elected officials based on where you live and your interests.
State Champions
Alzheimer's State Champions are advocates who engage with legislators right here in their home state of North Carolina, to focus on the issues that effect the lives of our communities in our great state. Champions are trained on the basics of advocacy engagement, the North Carolina legislative process, and how to share your story with your elected official. Champions schedule legislative visits and invite legislators to events in their home districts (like a Walk to End Alzheimer's, or a community education program). Additionally, they attend our State Advocacy Day in Raleigh in the spring, leading small groups in legislative meetings at the state capital to drive home our state priority asks. Learn more
Alzheimer’s Ambassador
Serve as the main point of in-district contact for a targeted member of Congress, helping the Alzheimer's Association achieve its federal policy priorities. They develop trusted relationships with their assigned congressional office through ongoing, personal contacts, drawing upon proven techniques and the support of Association National and Chapter staff. Ambassadors perform a number of grassroots advocacy activities that include periodic in-district meetings with elected officials, attendance at the annual Alzheimer's Association Advocacy Forum in Washington D.C., written and online communication with elected officials, participation in monthly calls & training sessions, and outreach to local media outlets. Alzheimer’s Congressional Teams
Teams of volunteers committed to advocacy who help to raise their elected officials’ awareness of and support for the Alzheimer’s Association’s public policy goals. Each ACT member’s efforts are crucial to the public policy success of the Association. ACT members work with their team leaders (“Ambassadors”) and Alzheimer’s Association staff on advocacy assignments to advance the Association's state and federal legislative priorities and build relationships with a designated member of Congress and staff.
