The Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter is accepting resumes for the following positions:

  • Marketing/Communications/ PR Intern (Part Time, Unpaid)


Care Consultant

Full time, Paid

Reports To: Family Services Manager

Supervises: None

General Summary:
Care Consultants provide advice and counsel to individuals who contact the Association's Contact Center, in accordance with approved clinical protocols. As trained professionals, Care Consultants work with callers who have care or health related questions by providing advice, problem-solving counsel regarding difficult behaviors, decision-making support, crisis assistance, guidance during transitions and connections to local services. Individual must be able to work a flexible schedule and provide stellar customer service. This a full time position.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide short-term telephone consultation with callers in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Apply empathetic listening skills to assess callers' needs.
  • Access appropriate information and make recommendations for care and follow-up
  • Help callers better understand Alzheimer's disease and behaviors commonly associated with it.
  • Link callers to emergency, chapter and/or community resources, as needed.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation and follow-up of call interactions and interventions.
  • Work closely with Contact Center staff
  • Follow established Association Contact Center/Care Consultation policies, procedures and clinical protocols.
  • Uphold the Alzheimer's Association policy on client confidentiality
  • Bring cases with legal, risk management, or ethical implications to the attention of the Program Officer in an expedient manner.
  • Act as a resource to other staff with issues of legal competency, guardianship, and advance directives.
  • On a rotating basis provide care consultations to outlying Chapter service area.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Master degree in social work, psychology, or counseling required. Licensure (LSW, LCSW, RN, LPN) preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in geriatrics or mental health with expertise in dementia.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers.
  • Experienced clinical/counseling skills in listening, assessment, empathy, advocacy, negotiation, referral, and closure.
  • Professional experience conducting health screenings/evaluations, diagnostic intakes and/or crisis intervention counseling.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the health care system.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Professional attitude and appearance.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and agency data collection systems.

Working Conditions:

  • Office located at chapter office; services provided throughout chapter service area
  • Position operates in a flexible work environment which requires some travel by car
  • Works a full time schedule with flexibility to offer early evening and weekend consultations at least two times per month.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Good vision and hearing (corrected)
  • Ability to type on a keyboard
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be able to lift or move 25 pounds

Marketing/Communications/PR Intern

Part time, Unpaid

Reports To: Marketing & Communications Manager

Supervises: None

General Summary:
The Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter is seeking an experienced, talented Marketing and Communications Intern to assist with social media calendars, campaigns and outreach. Partner with our Communications Team and be responsible for assisting in the creation of marketing strategies and their implementation to help increase awareness about the Alzheimer's Association.

Candidate must be able to complete the internship (15-20 hours per week)

  • Outgoing, easily establish relationships
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms
  • Skilled in tracking and analyzing web/social data Familiarity with Constant Contacts a plus
  • Excellent writing and editing skills – knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style a plus
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite a plus
  • Familiarity with photography and video a plus

Essential Job Functions:

  • Use Alzheimer's Association branding and messaging to increase followers on social media platforms and advise Communications Team on best practices.
  • Track social and web analytics to improve online communications and show successes.
  • Under the direction of the Communications Team, craft/curate weekly social media content.
  • Create and implement email campaigns for events, fundraising and advocacy through Constant Contacts & MailChimp
  • Craft press releases for upcoming events.
  • Assist with print and online communication projects including copy-writing, editing and design.
  • Assist with social media outreach during events when/if possible.
  • Assists the Communications Team and the Programs & Services Team in implementing marketing strategies for programs and services.
  • Find and enter education workshops, support groups and events on community and news websites and calendars.
  • Other communications projects as needed

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Student must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university in the fields of communication, nonprofit management, business, marketing or related field
