Heidi Musombwa, Support Group Volunteer, Middleton

“I can be there for them, and help them be there for others.”

Heidi has been leading a monthly Support Group for Caregivers for the Alzheimer’s Association for a little over a year and a half. She has worked in senior care for over 20 years and is a sales manager at Brookdale Senior Living in Middleton. She has always worked with those who are affected by dementia and helps them navigate their journey.

“The support groups offer an opportunity to gain resources and ideas and is a safe place to express concerns/worries,” says Heidi. “It’s also a break for caregivers to take time for themselves and to rejuvenate.”

Her support group meets over the lunch hour and it’s a time for caregivers to relax with others who are on the same journey. “It’s very rewarding to lead a support group,” says Heidi. “I look forward to it every month and know it helps make their days a little easier. It’s a positive environment for a very challenging illness.
