Kayla Stroud, Community Educator, Walk Volunteer, Advocate, Edgerton

“The Alzheimer’s Association is community-based and supports a great cause.”

Kayla has been volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association for over 3 ½ years staring first in Missouri, then bringing her dedication to Wisconsin. “The volunteers and staff all work great together and it’s such a great cause,” says Kayla.

A critical volunteer role Kayla fills it that of a Community Educator. “I try to bring education to areas unware of what Alzheimer’s is,” says Kayla. “We want to be a resource to those who need it, especially in the LGBT and Hispanic communities.” The programs she presents include topics such as: Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia, 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s and Healthy Living for your Brain and Body. Kayla also volunteers at health fairs to answer questions and spread awareness about the resources the Alzheimer’s’ Association offers.

Kayla works for Mercyhealth in Janesville as a Licensed Massage Therapist.  Her specialty is in hospice massage therapy. She found that many of her hospice patients were affected by Alzheimer’s disease, which is part of the reason she began volunteering.  She also had a great aunt who passed from Alzheimer’s disease, so has a personal connection.

In addition to her role as a Community Educator, Kayla also volunteers at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Dane County and has been actively involved as a State Advocate.
