Elizabeth ShihElizabeth Shih has more than 40 years of senior leadership experience in health care delivery. In late 2023, she retired from her role as senior executive vice president/chief administrative officer for CommonSpirit Health. In this role, she staffed the system chief executive officer and supported the chief operating officer. Shih also supported leadership in specific enterprise efforts/initiatives. She had direct oversight of the following functions: enterprise consulting group for project management and performance excellence; safety/security/emergency preparedness/executive protection; system meeting/events planning; systems operations support and harmonization of system/national offices. She supported sponsorship and governance, in partnership with the chief legal officer.

During her last two years, she also served as the interim chief information officer and chief strategy officer. Prior to joining CommonSpirit Health, Shih worked at Sutter Health for over eight years. Her roles include the executive vice president overseeing 15 acute care hospitals, and chief administrative officer providing direct oversight of IT, human resources, procurement, governance, internal audit, compliance, biomedical engineering, construction, communication/marketing, clinical lab and home health.  

In addition to boards served within CommonSpirit Health and Sutter Health, Shih has served on the following boards: Alzheimer's Association Northern California & Northern Nevada chapter board, the American Red Cross Bay Area chapter, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Interplast and Mercy Housing of California. She currently serves on the Board of the Institute of Aging in San Francisco. 

She has a master's degree from the University of Texas.

Shih was elected to the board of directors in 2021.
