Evaluating a decision aid for families of patients with advanced dementia

    Brenda Perez Cerpa, MD
Global Brain Health Institute and Hospital Civil de Guadalajara Fray Antonio Alcalde
    Guadalajara, Mexico

Dr. Cerpa plans to evaluate the impact of a tool related to goals of end-of-life care that could be used by families of individuals with advanced dementia (who often serve as decision makers). Dr. Cerpa will also assess the tool’s impact on improving quality of connection between families and healthcare providers. The study will be set in a memory clinic affiliated to the Geriatrics department in a university hospital in Guadalajara, Mexico. If successful, the study results could inform the development of tools to support families and enhance the quality of communication regarding the need to make difficult and stressful healthcare decisions.
