Family stigma and caregiver burden in early onset dementia

    Lina Velilla, MSc
Global Brain Health Institute and Neuroscience Group of Antioquia
    Medellín , Colombia

Past studies have extensively described the biological features and biological markers of early onset dementia in Antioquia, Colombia. However, Dr. Velilla believes that the knowledge about the associated stigma, socioeconomic factors, and main caregiver’s outcomes are as yet unclear.  Through this project, Dr. Velilla plans to analyze the impact of stigma and socioeconomics on caregivers of individuals with early onset dementia and frontotemporal degeneration in Antioquia, Colombia. The study results could help identify the type of support most beneficial, design tailored interventions, and advocate for promoting health policies. If successful, the study could also help reduce stigma related to dementia.
