The Imaging Dementia – Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) study is investigating whether beta-amyloid PET brain scans improve care and quality of life for individuals with cognitive impairment by helping clinicians provide a more accurate diagnosis. The New IDEAS study is expanding on the findings of IDEAS with a more diverse cohort. The Alzheimer’s Association is funding the New IDEAS Biorepository, which will store saliva (for DNA) and blood samples from the participants that can be matched to their brain scans. The biorepository is housed at the University of Southern California, Alzheimer's Therapeutics Research Institute (ATRI), under the leadership of Dr. Robert Rissman. This will allow researchers to test and validate new genetic and blood biomarkers for dementia that are applicable and accurate for a real-world population.
