Irondequoit Couple Turns Personal Stories Of Alzheimer’s Into Lifelong Career Commitment To The Cause

born1.JPGFrom June 18 through June 22, the Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studio of Rochester will host a series of events to bring attention to Alzheimer’s and other dementias and raise funds to find a cure.

Joe Born and Kathryn Kearney-Born of Irondequoit are professional ballroom dancers who worked as instructors at Arthur Murrays centers for a combined 25 years. Six years ago, the couple became the owners of Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studio in Rochester. Both have vivid childhood memories of grandparents who lived with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Born was about 12 years old when his grandfather was diagnosed. For the next few years, Born’s parents were taking care of his grandfather in their home. Born came of age wishing that “there was a way that we could make Alzheimer’s not a thing anymore.”
