Together, the Alzheimer's Association and Bill Gates are bringing research one step closer to ending this devastating disease by funding bold, brave science.

Gates joined the Alzheimer's Association Part the Cloud global research grant program, led by philanthropist Mikey Hoag, in a shared vision for innovation by making a $10 million award. The Alzheimer's Association, the global leader in Alzheimer's and dementia research, worked through Part the Cloud to raise $20 million, doubling the total clinical research investment to $60 million.

To date, more than $30 million from this partnership will help propel 19 high-risk, high-reward research projects aimed at potential new treatments and devices for Alzheimer's and dementia. Across all of these areas of research, the importance of the immune system and inflammation in the brain will continue to be the focus and priority of research funding by the Part the Cloud program.

Innovative philanthropists are taking on the enormous global challenge of changing the trajectory of Alzheimer’s.

Help the Alzheimer's Association + Part the Cloud continue to propel high-risk, high-reward research aimed at potential new treatments and devices for Alzheimer's and dementia.

Bill Gates and Part the Cloud have partnered to accelerate research exploring specific areas of neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and immune responses that contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s and dementia, including:

  • How brain cells use energy and fuel (mitochondria, bioenergetics and metabolism)
  • How brain cells remove waste and debris to avoid protein clumping (autophagy)
  • How blood supply in the brain is maintained (vascular)
