Donate NowA Heartwarming Tale of Crafting and Compassion: Denise Fuller's Tribute to Wanda Mango

Several years ago, Denise had a brief encounter with Wanda Mango, a fellow crafter from Sturgeon Bay who was battling Alzheimer's disease. Wanda, once an accomplished seamstress, had tragically forgotten how to sew due to her condition. Denise visited Wanda's home to purchase some of her unused fabrics and T-shirt pictures, a moment that would leave a lasting impact.
Moved by Wanda's story, Denise decided to channel her crafting passion into a meaningful cause. She began creating quilts using the T-shirt pictures as a fundraiser for The Longest Day, donating the proceeds to the Alzheimer's Association in Wanda's honor. This initiative, named "Wanda's Journey," continued even after Wanda's passing in May 2022. To date, Denise has donated several thousand dollars through this

Denise's dedication to the cause led to a touching moment at one of her craft shows. Jewel Peterson Ouradnik, owner of Rowley's Bay Resort, came into Denise's booth, and when she started telling Jewel the story behind Wanda's Journey, it turned out that she was Wanda's sister. The two shared an emotional exchange, with Jewel expressing heartfelt gratitude for Denise's efforts in supporting and honoring her sister's memory.
This beautiful story reminds us of the power of compassion and how small acts of kindness can create ripples of positivity, even among strangers. Denise Fuller's ongoing commitment to "Wanda's Journey" and The Longest Day not only supports the vital work of the Alzheimer's Association but also keeps the spirit of a fellow crafter alive through the art they both loved.
