    Beka Solomon, Ph.D.

    Beka Solomon is a professor at Tel Aviv University and is the former chair for Biotechnology of Neurodegenerative Diseases. She received her Ph.D. in biochemistry and biophysics at Weizmann Institute of Science. A world leader in Alzheimer's research and a pioneer of the immunotherapeutic approach, Dr. Solomon has the distinction of being the first investigator to recognize the potential for anti–beta antibodies as a therapy for Alzheimer's disease. In 2002, the Alzheimer’s Association awarded the prestigious Zenith Award to Dr. Solomon, and the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation supported her research in Alzheimer’s vaccines. She has published close to 200 scientific articles in prestigious journals and has a respectable number of international patents. Dr. Solomon has attracted the interests of the pharma and industries for her inventions in Alzheimer's that have been licensed to Wyeth and Elan in a landmark deal with one product in Phase III clinical trials. She was the scientific founder of Neurophage-Proclara, a start-up company targeting toxic misfolded proteins in aging disorders.
