The health and safety of all of our constituents, including the scientific community, remain our drivers as we address the COVID-19 pandemic and as we continue to pursue the Alzheimer's Association mission, today and in the longer term.

The Alzheimer's Association leadership team is meeting daily, and more often, to monitor the impact of this pandemic across the globe and on our cause. We have been in touch with multiple institutions and research facility leaders around the globe, and understand that the impact of COVID-19 includes the suspension of research, impact on patient care, rotating schedule of lab staff, halting of wet lab work and more.

Given these current challenges and the fluidity of the pandemic, the Alzheimer's Association is pausing the International Research Grant Program (IRGP) letter of intent submission process (with an original deadline of March 19). The goal of this pause is to provide more time for researchers, as requested by many, to:

  • Develop letters of intent including timelines and plans given the impacts of COVID-19.
  • Secure all institutional review with required stakeholders.
  • Compose robust applications for submission with advisor support.
  • Allow volunteers to participate in the peer review process.
  • And, to finalize the funding slate by Association volunteer reviewers and scientific leadership.

New deadlines for the applications submission process for the IRGP for these programs have yet to be determined, as we continue to monitor how COVID-19 continues to impact the scientific community. We will communicate when a new schedule has been determined. In addition, if you have already submitted your letter of intent, you will have an opportunity to update the LOI and submit in the next cycle.

Please note, this application submission pause does not affect currently funded awardees.  If your Alzheimer's Association funded project is affected or becomes affected, we ask that you inform us as soon as possible, please contact grantsapp@alz.org.

Our commitment to advancing the critical work of this scientific community is unwavering and we are committed to funding you directly, as we are also relentlessly pursuing significant resources on all fronts including through our federal advocacy efforts that have been so successful in recent years.

As always, thank you for your work, and stay healthy, we will be in touch with more details in the near future.
